Well folks, I'm sorry to say the bike ain't running.

It was running great (and sounding great) I rode about 10 miles this evening after getting a few final things buttoned up, new fender, wiring new tail light/turn signals, etc, and took her out for the first real ride around 7pm.

Got about 10 miles and the bike was running good, I'm going 80mph on Mopac (a highway here for the non-locals) and all of a sudden the bike dies. It wouldn't start, but it had oil and no oil leaks, and it would turn over with the starter. I saw a little oil near the cylinders and when I put it in 5th gear I could push it without pulling in the clutch.

anyway, I'm not much on religion, but I'm praying it's a blown head gasket and not something to do with the cam chain...

I'll dig into it later, but in case anyone is wondering, a motorcycle tow runs about $65 here in Austin.

When you torqued the head, did you do the 3rd step 90 degrees turn following the same pattern?

I'm 99% sure I did the 3rd step, but I had to take the head off after torquing it on because I forgot to put the 2 dowels on the studs, so it's possible I didn't do the 3rd step but I think I did.

It could have blown because I'd already torqued the head down then took it off, then retorqued the same gasket...

Let's hope that's it!

Man that sucks, run a compression test on it before you tear into everything again. You should be able to rent one at your local autoparts store.

daaaaaaaaammmmmm!

On another note...I havent been on this forum very long but I'm thinking sweat should have his own dedicated thread and it should be updated daily :upthumb:
Of course something like that would lead to having him become a tester for some of the aftermarket parts makers and ultimately he would wind up tossing leftovers to the loyal readers of his posts pcn:
