I finished stripping, sanding, and polishing out my alternator cover and primary case. I sanded with wet/dry 220, 320, 400, 600 until my fingers bled (yes, really). They look pretty good now (not my fingers), but there were a few discolorations in the casting that just don't go away. Maybe that's why they paint them or chrome plate them. I still prefer polished aluminum to chrome for engine parts. I'm pretty happy with my new Jet 1-hp buffer/sander. The extended shafts really help reach all parts of the larger parts. The cam cover is next, when I feel motivated again...
Sure hope it quits raining around here some day; I'd kind of like to <ride> this thing!

OK, the right side is dusty from the buffing I did on the cover from the other side.
Oh, and that white line at the bottom of the fuel tank is black reflective tape that only shows up in the flash.
