So yeah, last weekend I installed my "New Bonneville AI Removal Kit"... this weekend I look down at my motor while I'm sitting at a light, only to find that the "vacuume port cap" has disappeared. My bike's been misfiring when the idle is set real low... so I'm thinking at some point I had some pressure built up in there which resulted in the cap flyin' off next time the thing fired.

Either way, I was wondering if ya'll had an idea as to what I could put on there as an alternative to ordering an OEM cap from Triumph. and having to pay 30 bucks for it.

Here's a pic. Please ignore the rust... I bought this bike not too long ago from a guy who'd parked it outside for the length of time that he'd owned it, so now I'm forced to deal with it.

A carb fart will cause these to come off when they are worn. Check out a autoparts store. Periodically check on them for wear and cracking. The factory plug's are rather thick.

Someting else you could do is to run a vacuum line from one intake to the other.

Ahhhh, now that's an idea.

Am I alright riding this thing without that cap on, or should I get this resolved before I get back out on the road. Ultimately, I haven't the slightest idea what this "port" does.

Good Lord, man! Is that rust all over your carbs?

If you don't run down to the nearest auto parts supply and buy a bag of neoprene caps your bike will run lean. Running lean means running to hot. I'd do it right away.

I had the same problem on the carb barb using cheap auto store caps on mine. Bike farted at idle at a light and shot one into the intersection. I got it back much to the chagrin of drivers. They must have thought I was nutty, but I know a vacuum leak is no good. Got some good ones from Triumph (not $30.00) and used a little safety wire around the base like a hose clamp and haven't had a problem in 2000+ miles since. But, I do carry a couple extras just in case. Get the nice thick ones from your dealer. On the manifold where you show yours is missing, I ran a crossover tube to the other side.

Replace it now!!!! Any autoparts store will have them. It's bad news running without them.

Heh, I think the flash on my camera makes it look worse that it really is... but what you're seein' is about as bad as it gets.

But then again, if you think that's bad... you should see the bolts that mount my exhaust to the motor. At this rate, I'm afraid I'll never get them off, so for now... I'm not even going to try.

My 904cc BB was blowing those caps off regularly and it was quite obvious when it did, because idle was noticeably rougher. I safety wired mine.
