anyone tried one or use one all the time? my first thought is a disk lock that has an alarm built in is a pretty cool idea, as a cheaper alternative to an actual alarm.
any thoughts, pro or con?

I've been tempted to pick one up for those times my bike sits outside unattended. Those disc locks without an alarm might be an inexpensive deterent to getting ripped off.

I own one, and I love it. Its a good lock even with out the alarm in it. There just isnt too many places to put it on a stripped down Thrux. The pouch does have frame straps but I havent found a good place to mount it.

I've got one as part of my security system and I love it.

The only con would be that it is heavy and a bit bulky to carry in your jacket when riding. It does, however, come with a nylon fabric case that can be strapped to the frame for travel.

The alarm is fantastic. If you fiddle with it even a little, it screams. It also serves to prevent the owner from driving off with it still attached.

I purchased all my security stuff from BikeBone.com - great service and very reliable.

Are these things "one size fits all"?

not exactly one size fits all. they make different size pins, and different reach.
It looks to me like the one with 7mm pin and 2 inch reach will work on the front or the back

The portability of a good disk lock is worth the money. Anything to slow the bad guys down while you reload.

I have a Xena lock with an alarm built in. Its very LOUD and no way could you ride off with it fitted. As soon as you move the handlebars it goes off. Embarrassing when you have to get off, and unlock it. But safe.

Sorry Ridge, in your picture is the Xena alarm the little silver thing, or the whole kit and caboodle?
