In trying to replace a fork oil seal I have run into one heck of a problem. The bottom bolt the holds the bottom rod bushing is not coming undone. I have used an air drill, shoved a piece of wood in the tube, and called the thing every bad word in the dictionary. Does anyone have any old "tricks" for getting this bold free from the bushing?

I'm not sure I understand which bolt is fighting you...

The bolt inside the bottom of the fork. It goes inside the fork and holds the bottom bushing in place. Even the Haynes manual says it is tricky to get out, but this was insane. Perhaps heating the bolt to losen the thread lock, but I would think someone has an old trick or two.

I had no problem removing these bolts in order to use the holes to drain fork oil. I take it the problem you're having is that the internals are spinning with the bolt as you turn it?

I would try reassembling the fork and reinstalling the cap so that there's downward pressure on the damper rod, then trying again to unscrew the bolt. If you haven't tried that already...

Thanks to all who attended!

Do you keep one bullet left for yourself, for when it's all over and done?

As a last resort triumph sell a special tool to hold the damper rod while you remove the bolt.

Drop by your local shop and they'll have it out in 5 minutes.
