I love the look of the old BMWs and there's no way I couldn't afford an restored one. However, I'd pick up one of these babes in a second if I had an extra 3Gs sitting around - of course then get the stickers to make it look authentic. Note: I have no problem w/ Thai Triumphs or Commie BMWs. (However I'm not a fan of the Royal Enfields out of India - they seem a little low on power and weak on craftsmanship from what I've read; also not a fan of the look.) I'm more about the look and the workmanship. I think it's eventually better for the consumer.

BMW has a history of commies making their cycles. They got around some treaty after WW I by making them in Russia and China. - limited knowledge here.

I actually don't like the side car (not my cup of tea), just the look of the old BMW - and price.

Fraederichs,
Good to see you posting around here again - that thing is cool,
looks like fun to go tooling around on, if only to give the Ural &
Enfield sidehacks some competion, to my eye it's more appealing than either... wonder if there's a US importer for them.
Also - did you ever install those handlebars?
Cheers,
D9

Wow ...... now that is a vintage BMW look. Reversed control levers and plunger-type rear suspension. These bikes would be slow, with less than 25hp, especially with a sidecar!

If you are interested this guy knows plenty, I have met him and seen his bike. Looks great but not my cup of tea, too slow.

I've seen them on the road in Shanghai, and many are painted a mustard yellow at the factory. They sell for about US $3,500 new.
Incidentally, China has more than 100 separate motorcycle and scooter manufacturers, which are both privately owned and public (Government) controlled.

The only good thing I saw in all those pictures was an add for a Zippo lighter.
a) It was in English.
b) Zippo's are made in good old Pennsylvania.
Why where all the riders in camo ?

Nice heads up. Side cars are pretty cool if you have the storage space for them. There is something good to be said about the flat twin engine that is almost as endearing to me as a horizontal twin. Some designs just stand the test of time. Nice write up on Urals in Cycle World this month too. Seems like simple fun. Just better be handy and on first name basis with a good machine shop.

I already have two Triumphs and an airhead beemer. All have two wheels. If there was a dealer nearby, I'd be seriously tempted by this. Max the Dog would love it. It even has the machine gun mount in place on the hack.
Ural's gone a long way toward improving their quality. Not so sure about the CJs, though.

Ural just doesn't have enough dealers yet to make me think about it. There is availability on sidecars for Triumphs out there. Did some looking at it but can't remember where. They were stateside, however. I saw a really cool T140 with a sidecar on it last summer and it was way cool. Would be great for the beagle!
