VW Beetle Tailpipes on a Scrambler - Video

I found a thread on here about using VW tailpipes on a Scrambler. They are super cheap, so I thought why not! I did block off the secondary air injection (AI) and went to the dealer and had the 20513 map installed.

So far I'm REALLY happy with it! It's definitely louder than my stock mufflers that had the last baffle removed. But it's really nicely aggressive sounding and the weight decrease is VERY noticeable. The new map made it MUCH more responsive.

Bike sounds great!
I can't find the thread about doing this... Can you provide a link, or a short write-up of what you did, and where you got the pipes?

Are they just straight through pipes, or is there some baffling?

I just went to a local VW shop and asked for Beetle tail pipes. They have louvers inside so it's not completely straight.

wow that was a great sounding Scrambler. Makes me want to do the same thing to mine.
Curious, as I do not have a tach on mine, what was the rpms you were revving it out to?

That is an awesome mod! As usual, I am blown away by the creativity of the folks on this forum.

Only thing I had a question on was the revs you're pulling in the video sure seemed high to me. Maybe you were just goofing around for the camera though? I think you red-lined a couple times.

Nothing wrong with doing that. They have a rev limiter. I ping off the limiter all the time. Are we missing something?

Yep, I got mine on ebay as recommended in the other thread for (if I remember correctly) ~$15

That was a popular mod back in the late 60's and early 70's on the Honda Scrambler twins. I had them on my 1967 CL77 Honda Scrambler. That was a 305cc twin. The precursor to the CL/CB/SL 350's. So it's really not a new idea.

interested in the fitment as i am looking to get a scrambler. do they fit into or over, or just match + use a "band" type exhaust + if they are stable using any of the mentioned fitments. thanks for any info on this old but great option

thanks to all for the good info + earnesto's great link. VW uses a lot of premium long lasting metals + fasteners, as my 2001 jetta-bora 1.8T factory stainless system, prolly 400 series but better than short lived mild steel!

I believe the header diameter is the same. It would be easy to check on your bike though.
