Well, I decided to finally rip the wheels off speedy and powder coat them black. Has anyone done this. Any tips or tricks I should know about ? I realize I will probably have to trash all the wheel seals to remove them but the bearings should press out and be re-useable ? Did you have the bearing and seal surface covered ? Plug the disk brake bolt holes ? I seem to recall the thickness of the powder being a problem on tight fit parts ?
Would appreciate any help or advise and will pass on any discoveries along the way.

Steel should be fine, but if you got aluminum rims, they don't like being baked.

We powder coated a couple of pairs of wheels for our old endurance racing Hawk. Pulled the bearings and turned `em over to the powder coater (fellow racer Randy White, RIP). He sealed the areas that needed to be sealed, prepped the aluminum alloy wheels, sprayed `em and baked `em.

Worked out well as we were mounting new tires about every third week ten months out of the year. Held up better than paint.

Panthercity, thanks for the response. I dropped the wheels off today and think I have aquired the info I need now. Shame to trash all those good seals but should be able to save the bearings they tell me.
