...compared to a Triumph Speed Four. An S4 has a lot more performance for a lot less money. Doesn't look as cool though.

Thanks to all who attended!

Do you keep one bullet left for yourself, for when it's all over and done?

A Triumph Bonneville T-100 is $8299.00
A 2007 Suzuki 1250 Bandit is..........$8299.00 (!)

no where near as cool as the Bonneville though.

Lets face it, there are a hell of a lot better values for the
money. but, I wasn't buying a minivan either.

compared to an SV650.

They cost less and will spank a bonnie/thrux (stock that is).

they weigh 100 lbs less, and make more hp.

Triple disks, dual front floaters, digital speedo, tach, fuel injection, tons of aftermarket and a cult like following.

My brother and buddy both have one, they wheelie like crazy in first gear too. fun as hell to ride.

Course, I rode 1300 miles with them last week and no one asked about their bikes...Mine got compliments everywhere. The SVs are fun to ride, but I come home to the Bonnie.

Compared to an 18k Rolex Submariner.
Compared to a Cruise to Alaska.
Compared to upgrading my Wifes Wedding ring set.
Where do I stop? Heck,I could have spent my $13 Grand(CDN) on a crapload of other stuff. When I purchased my Scrambler,I wasn't looking for "value for the dollar".I could have purchased any bike.To be quite honest,I wasn't even looking to buy a new motorcycle.I basicly ran into the dealership to pick up a new pair of gloves and was stopped dead in my tracks when I saw the Scrambler sitting on the showroom floor.I just about climbed over three Ducati's just to get a closer look. Money or value for the dollar had nothing to do with it,I fell head over heals in love.

I sold an SV650 to buy the Bonnie. Believe me there is no comparison!

Somehow - the Brits were able to engineer 'fun', and lots of it into the Bonneville. I've been thru 10 Beemers in the last 21 years, wonderful bikes, but aside from my old GS, which will be around forever, bikes like the Bonneville and W650 do it for me like none of the others.

The Bonnie and W650 bring to mind how much I enjoyed my leased Miata for 3 years. It sounded right, felt right, looked right. A Buick Roadmaster could kick it's a** in a stoplight drag, but it didn't matter. The Miata was simply a fun vehicle.

I may look at the new Kaw Concours 14 as an "aim it for the west coast" machine, but I'd certainly keep the Bonneville for most of my 200-300 mile day rides. The fun factor is worth every penny of the admission price to me.

I've got both an SV ('01 (pre-FI) 650,unfaired) and an '05 T100, and sold a '98 R1100R after 37k miles. The SV is a keeper; it's my commuting and errand bike. The Bonneville is my recreational riding bike (non-freeway). But the SV is well up to the assignment of recreational riding, which was, after all, its own role BB.

But the initial question is no doubt just idle mind play for Archimedes. I assume anyone on this forum need not be reminded that within the purview of British twins, comparisons are, if not impossible, at least irrelevant! Whatever magnificient qualities are available in machines from other manufacturers in other parts of the planet, none of them have the characteristic of "British twinness", and it's that, underlying and supporting the actual quality of the machines themselves, that Triumph alone provides.

Just casually jotting down some thoughts here...
