I am sure a lot of you have read this great book but for those that haven't it is about a guy that spends 4 years riding around the world on a 1973 Triumph.

Really a great book and a great read in the wintertime when it is a little chilly to ride and you can't stop thinking about motorbikes.

Sounds good, I'll have to scrounge up a copy somewhere, I just checked and my local library doesn't carry it.

When you can't ride in the winter, a good motorcycle book can really help with the "cabin fever"...Not to hijack this thread (as I do it anyway!) but maybe we could post some reading suggestions up here....

I am currently reading "The Bikeriders" by Danny Lyon. Its about the Chicago Oultlaws club in the 60's, a bunch of really good pictures and lots of transcribed interviews and stories from riders back in the day in Chicago. I guess Danny rode with them for four years (on a Triumph  ). Lots of neat stories, the pics are excellent. This was before the "1%" culture we think of now with MCs.....

IceSeven - I purchased my copy of "Jupiter's Travels" from Ted Simon who was present at Vintage Days, Mid-Ohio 1997.

Here's a note I wrote to myself inside the back cover of the book:

" ....while I was purchasing the book, I asked Ted how often he and Jim Rogers of "Investment Biker" fame (another round the world traveler) crossed paths. "Never", he said. "I suspect we travel in different social circles". I've just started the book and I already like Ted's circle best.

It is a fun read by a guy who took a Triumph through some mighty rough places.

Bob

Yep, it's really an excellent book, whether you're into motorcycles or not. Mostly, it's a well-written and introspective travelogue. After reading Jupiter's Travels, I decided that I would never complain about my Bonnie's seat for 200 mile rides again.

BTW, the reviews say it's not as good, but just a few days ago I ordered Riding High, the follow-up to Jupiter's Travels.

Strontje, yeah I just got "Riding High" also.
Ted Simon retraced his 1973 trip a few years ago (at age 67) and he has a CD available of that trip and I believe a book on that trip is coming soon.

Really fires me up to do a trip somewhere.
