A few people on the forum have the Manic Salamander universal bar end weights and from what I hear they work really well at reducing vibrations. But I have the M-bars with the threaded ends and I was interested in finding weights that would bolt on to factory (or factory-sized aftermarket) bars. I looked around and I was able to find a few bolt-on bar end weights for the bonnie. Unfortunately, almost all the weights I found are very light and wouldn’t work much better than the aluminum end-caps. None of them come close to the 13-ouncers from Manic Salamander.

I emailed Paul Ashman at Manic Salamander and asked whether he would be able to design bar ends that would fit directly onto factory (or same-sized aftermarket) bars. He is willing to make a project out of it as long as he knows that people are interested in the product. Check out the item at ‘manicsalamander.com’ and if you want Paul to design the weights for our bikes you can express your interest by emailing Paul at ‘pashman@manicsalamander.com’.

Also, someone donated a Bonnie bar to Paul a while back, but he still needs the end caps to help him design the weights. If anyone out there is not using their end caps, could you please mail them to Paul?

Cheers!

Look into Rhinomotos. They are heavy and work well. Many styles available.-T1

OK guys - I think I'm about to learn something new. The bar end weights - you said they stop or reduce vibration. Is this just for engine vibration, and if so, for the whole rpm range or only if you like to wind it out? This appears to be something that was not around when I had my last Triumph(35 years ago). :???:

Walt,

Go to maniacsalamander.com there is a complete explanation of bar end weights and how they work.

I did look into the Rhinomotos and from my understanding they are light weight sliders. They do have an option for a steel/plastic combo but even those don't look as hefty as Manic Salamander's, which are about 13ounces on each side.

The Rhinomoto's that I purchased are stainless steel and have provision for CRG bar ends. They are heavy and did wipe out handlebar vibration.-T1

Why not tap your bar plugs up from an M5 to an M6 thread and use the Manic's you want. Or else you can drill out the bulk of the plugs with a hole saw and clean up the rest with a die grinder and voila.
So long as you're not hopeing to go back to the stockers you'll be all set.

Right on Big Rick,
I heard from a couple of people who did just that, unfortunately the result wasn't much to look at. The fit is too awkward and people had to use washers etc to make the 6mm ends fit right. I also thought about drilling out the plugs and using the universal fit ends from MS, but I personally don't trust the expanding collet system to hold nearly a pound on each side. Its probably all in my head, but I would rather have the weights allen bolted to the bar. Also, this way we can use weights interchangeably between the factory bars and other that have the same ends.

Paul at MS being a nice guy doesn't mind putting the product out for us. I am sure he will design something great for us! Again if anyone is interested in them, email Paul and also if you have an unused set of end caps, please mail those to Paul.
