I just changed out a tailight and now I'm blowing fuses when I apply the brakes but the parking light still works (if that makes sense). The old light was a 12V/21/5W and the new smaller light is a 12V/23/8W. I tried to find a smaller 5W light but I couldn't find a stop light bulb.

Can I use a larger fuse? Will I die on the side in a ball of flames?

Any suggestions?

Make sure the bulb connector is fitted back in properly. I did this to when I had to tighten my turn signals that the dealer left very very loose when fixing my flat.

Anyway, the bulb needs to go in a particular way. I blew 2 fuses before rechecking my handi work and noticed the little black plastic contact was not seated properly back into the hole. Mine has a sort of key fit to it. Then I put the ***** bulb in wrong. running light was very bright and brake was very very non-noticable. reversed it and working fine now.

The key is that contact point. Make sure it is seated properly. I had mine kind of jammed in there and it was shorting out.

Hope this helps, and pertains to your issue. I am after all a newb here still.
