I fitted one of Oldsports type today. Thanks for the info regarding the correct wire for the signal. How did you get onto that? I am an eleco and don't know that i would have worked it out with a drawing anyway.

I used some squeeze on inline connecters that have a slot in them for 1/4" spade terminals, I did not have to cut any wires.
I also used a bolt right thru the plastic bit with a largish washer on each side.
I found a grommet that fitted in the hole on the mounting bracket and used a washer either side of it and finally a nyloc nut to hold it all together.
It looks OK but I might pull it off and paint the needle so it looks a little closer to the original.

I have the same drag specialties tach (never installed) if anyone is interested. I'll sell it for $50.00 which includes shipping.

I opted to go with Triumph tach kit instead. I actually bought it for another bike but never got around to installing it. I'm glad that some members like the tach because I heard that the needle bounces around alot.

E'mail me if your interested

This is really odd:
My BonnieBlack doesn't have a tach', so I put little pinstripes on my speedo where my "party zones" are for each gear. They were virtually useless before I changed out the rev limiter (the engine hit 7400 rpm too quickly, too easily). Anyway, I can't believe how I've managed to survive without a tach for 8,000 miles.

- but I still want one -

However, I want to retain my current 'look'.......
but replace the speedo with a white faced tach.
And now that I can rev' the engine beyond it's prior 7400 rpm limit, I want/need a tach that much more.

I'd like to have a digital readout for my speedo. Problem is, it's gonna have to have an odometer, and what are the legal ramifications of replacing the factory odometer showing it's 8,000 miles......... come to think of it, I wonder if a guy could move the instrument cluster from a Triumph RS to the Bonneville??? Switch that tack to a white face, and I'd be set! Hmmmmm........ I wonder. :???:

I don't remember exactly how I came up with the signal wire. Luck?

You did the right thing with the connectors. The ones I used happened to be in my junk drawer that day.

Pat,
They don't have any white faced tachs but a bloke that's clever enough to paint his seat would be able to paint a white dial on on of these ones.
I haven't actually had it apart but there is 2 nuts on the back that look like hold the thing together.
The movement on mine is nicely damped and does not wobble at all.

Tachos Here
