I'm about to take possession of a 2001 Bonneville. Are there any recalls or upgrades that I should have performed?

If I remember right the only real thing with the 2001 was clutch chattering. I have an '02 and it is almost identical to the '01. I have over 22,000 trouble free miles so far.

2001's came with 105 jets, but I'm sure someone has changed jets by now.

What difference would changing the jets make?
I bought my 2001 Bonne 6 months ago with 2400 miles on the clock. AFAIK it is totally stock.

Some of the early 2001 models also had problems with oil in their airboxes caused by a poorly engineered pressure relief valve that failed and pushed oil into the airbox. When this happened to mine in 4/01 it was quite new to Triumph and took a bit of communication back & forth with Triumph in the UK before the new revised part was sent to my dealer in PA. Check your airbox and see if you can get in touch with the previous owner to question them about this issue. At one point mine dumped about a qt of oil that ended up overflowing the airbox and splattering onto the rear wheel. Check it out...
Good luck,
Tom

I bought My bonny new in 2001, it suffered from the faulty relief valve grebmrof refered to but the dealer replaced it right away. it now has 64000 klm. (40,000 mi.) It has given me no grief whatsoever. Good luck- Desperado

Thanks for the feedback. I'll be moving "over" from the Sprint ST forum to here. Triumphs are so much fun.

"I'll be moving "over" from the Sprint ST forum to here...."
Gotta ask it... why the change? I considered the ST also, especially after having owned a 2004 Sprint RS for a year. Wonderfully capable bikes, but I noticed that whenever I was in the mood for "fun" (as opposed to just getting somewhere), I was always taking the Thruxton. Then the latest generation of ST came out...WOW they weren't dowdy looking anymore! But the more I looked at the ST, I just couldn't get past that rear end treatment, and the steep angle of the seat into the tank.
Then, all the negative feedback about heat... I remember being at my dealers when a bloke came in from a test ride on a new ST. Looking the parked bike over, I happened to put my hand on the passenger grab rail...it was so hot, I could not hold it! All told, I figured it was not enough of an upgrade over my RS, so I never made a move on it.
Now I just have my Thruxton, love it, but may add a Scrambler when funds premit!

The only reason to get "off" the Sprint ST and "on" a Bonneville were my knees. I simply need a few inches more of legroom. I've never been very flexible.
As for all of the "cliche" complaints about the Sprint, principally the heat and the bags, neither were an issue for me. Even in sunny South Carolina the heat was acceptable (and reduced with the heat kit) and the bags never failed me (and they too were fixed). The Sprint ST is THE best sport-tourer, bar none. I will miss her.
