Actually, triumph is a greek word. It derives from the greek word "Thriamvos"!!!

That's a stinking lie!! It's common knowledge that our beloved brand of motorcycle is named after a prestigious, well-known, high-quality brand of sexy lingerie, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

I read once that Triumph was picked for the name because is was understandable in
French - triomphe
English - Triumph
German - Triumph
and not far off in Italian and Spanish - triunfo

I guess the Greek team was comprised entirely of former UNC Tar Heel players. Because "Tar Heels" is also a Greek word that means "Beat Dook".

Gee I thought Tri Umph was originally named by the constipated founder. On his 3rd "Umph" he was well relieved and felt he had won a major Triumph. Thus the name. :-D
