Has anybody attempted to remove the evaporative loss system off their bonnie or scrambler? Are there any good online tutorials for the surgery?

Seems like a ton of hoses involved in the apparatus, and in the name of eliminating any possible sources of vacuum leaks and keeping the engine uncluttered I'd like to get rid of the thing. I'm not sure, but I think it may only be on California bikes.

Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jonah

Theres a PDF file in the downloads section on how to do it. I had questions after reading it, but others have used it just fine. And it IS only Ca that has it.

Here it is

Isn't a evap loss system just a charcoal cannister on the tank? Or are the carb vents included too?

If it's just the tank, you aren't gonna cause any vaccuum leaks that way.

No, it's a 2 cannisters and some valves and a ton of tubing hooked up to the carbs and the tank. It's pretty substantial, not just a simple cannister. Look in the manual and you'll see it.

I removed it from mine using the instructions in the link in Dazcos post. It was pretty easy, took maybe half an hour. It really cleaned up the engine area, and like you said there is now less things to go wrong with the bike....I heartily recommend it! Been running without it for about 15,000 miles now..No problems.

When I remove it, will I have to adjust the carbs at all or will the mixture, etc.. remain the same?

Jonah, no adjustments needed, the system has no noticable impact on the engine (unless it develops a vacuum leak!)....Just pull it off and away you go....

Thanks for the instructions and advice. Removed it tonight and can't believe how much better the bike looks.

2lbs of junk.
