Me!

Just back from holiday, 3 weeks ferrying the family round in the cage, which is a Diesel estate. Did quite a high mileage, so a couple of tankfulls of Diesel were needed during the holiday (...the quickest of you will have already put two and two together...).
Back home, and go out for a ride on the Speedy just to check everything is hunkydory and I haven't forgotten how to go round corners before the Monday morning commute.. no probs. Notice high 90's on the trip computer, so think to self.. hmmm.. it's going to need a fill-up tomorrow...
Sure enough.. on the way home, starts to chug and sputter, flip to reserve, cruise on for a couple of miles then pull in to the nearest petrol station.. no probs...........

OK you guessed it. 4 litres of diesel went in the tank before I looked at my hand.. looked at the pump again.. looked over at the unleaded pump sitting there on its hook waving at me saying "Yoo hoo.. over here Dumbo!!"

ARGGHHGGGGGGHHHGHGGHG

I was lucky... had the presence of mind not to try and start it anyway, and was only 200 yards from my very helpful dealer who is currently draining the fuel system. I felt about 2 inches high wheeling the bike up to the dealership door, I tell ya.

What a dork. :-|

D@mn! And I had my acceptance speech all ready.

At least you caught it before trying to start the bike. Good luck & congratulations on the award!

You aren't even in the running. Friend of mine filled his 'boat's 75 gallon fuel tank with at least 6o gallons of water. Now that was a fun fix.

Being that my truck is a diesel, I know my days are numbered.

When I am on the bike I try to pull into stations that don't carry diesel.

Is that a new modification?....Do you have to re-jet to use diesel fuel?

Ouch.....like monkeyboy I drive a diesel p/u and am very paranoid when putting gas in either the bike or truck to be sure I grab the right nozzle.

Thank goodness you didn't try to start it before the discovery.

Man I feel better about myself. Thank you.

I read in one of the dozen motorcycle magazines I read about a diesel bike in the works somewhere - might be something to look into.

Heck, that could happen to anybody. It's good to have a dumb story to tell about yourself.

It's better to put diesel into the gasoline motor than vice versa...

I drive a VW diesel...

Back when I was working at the H-D shop, we had 2 such bikes come into the shop within 2 weeks of one another, that had diesel fuel i them.

One guy had a new as in less than 1000 miles dresser, and was travelling. Hit a quicky gas stop, filled up with diesel, jumped on the Interstate and hammerred down......said he was accelerating thru 90mph in 4th when all hades broke loose......but he kept the hammer down for 10 miles....till she locked up.....with the front connecting rod sticking out of the cases......
Sorry dude,,,,no warranty for stupid. New engine 4800.00, labor 600.00, total, $5400.00

The other guy was a regular customer with a S.E. 95" kit.....same scenario....'cept he shut down when he first heard the detonation.....engine still in one peice, but BOTH pistons broken in the ring lands.....cylinders were still perfect, with less than 5000 miles since the upgrade, so a little honing, a new set of pistons and rings, and he was on his way, less than 500.00 to repair....

Moral of the story.....don't put diesel in your tank, AND if she starts making noise just MINUTES after a fill-up.....SHUT IT OFF!
