Sue and I are packing up the bikes tonight and heading south for 8 days of riding in and around the Smokies. No trailering this time. Riding out from here. After piddling aroung down there we with get on the BRP at Cherokee at the last exit and ride it north until we run out of time before we hightail it home on the 26th.

Will miss all of you, but not enough to stay home!

Take care,

Monte

PS: If you are the praying type, say a short one for a us to have a safe trip: AND, no daring deer trying to share the road with us!

I don't know what direction you are coming, but if you are coming on I 70 East you may want to try this. Go into Pennsylvania and follow I 70E to Breezewood. Take Rt 522 South to Berkeley Springs, and on to Winchester. Go through Winchester and follow Rt 522S to Front Royal and get on the Skyline Drive. The drive begins in Front Royal and turns INTO the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can see the entire thing and not just part of it this way. BEAUTIFUL!!! Makes me proud I hail from these parts. :-D

Thanks, guys and gal. Chris: normally I'd do something like that but with the front coming through Friday afternoon and into Saturday further south, we're going to barrel straight down south on I-77 through WVA to Wytheville, VA, hang a right on I-81 and head for Bristol. Next morning, with any luck, we should be ensconsed in some motel in Maggie Valley before too many raindrops fall. Then hunker down for 24 hours, visit the museum, then its off to Cherokee and start wending our way back north on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Mare: If we get as far as Front Royal you are on for that meet, greet --- and eat! Our treat! If you look at this again before we leave, email me your phone #. I thot I had it, but apparently not. Email directly to

mecscc@localnet.com

and I'll check later tonight and again in the morning right before we leave.

Don't know if I'll get much sleep tonight. Been doing these trips for over 50 years and still get all twitterpated before a long ride. Guess that says something for the enduring quality of love for motorcycling. Kind of gets into your blood, doesn't it? :-D

Hi, Monte - if you're not in a great rush coming home from the BRP, have you thought about riding old US 250? We often stay at a small motel in Bartow, WV, The Boyer Motel. A nice stopping point if you just aren't up to riding any further. Just a plain little country motel, with rooms in the $35-40 range, at least when I was there last in 2004. Rt 250 is also a very nice ride from Virginia into Bartow. Regardless of which route you and Sue take to come home, have a great ride and a safe one.

Bob

Monte, hope you guys have nothing but sunshine and clear roads! I just returned from there today on a 250 mile loop. Perfect destination; wild berries, waterfalls and traffic has lightened up with kids going back to school. I'll email you my number. If you need any help I can get to you guys anywhere from the foothills easily.

Monte, y'all have great, safe trip. You will enjoy the museum. Are you going to ride Deals Gap while you ae in the vicinity? If so, recommend you ride it during the week and stat away from it on the weekends. You and Sue are in our prayers. Have fun!!
