I think the bike would look so much cleaner if it didn't have the big bulky looking tach and speedo (I know I'm going to get some crazy criticisms here). The old Bonnie's clusters were so much smaller. Has anyone removed them and installed something smaller?

I've been thinking about this too. And while I haven't found one single solution it looks like mini speedo/tachs are available, just need to get the plate fabricated.

LSL kits have a mini Tachs and they may do a speedo aswell.

I almost passed out when I saw the tach kit price....thought I was looking in an H-D Screaming Eagle catalog........I'll go tachless.

That's actually really cool -- they have a full-sized tach and a mini speedo installed. I wouldn't mind doing that on my bike, I just don't like the full-sized speedo and mini tach. The tach's more useful, it should be at least the same size.

When I first bought my bonny in 2001
there was no option for a tach.
Then when they did come out with the tach option
there was no way I was going to pay that much for the kit.
And I thought it look to big and gotti.
I found this Minny tach on ebay for $50.00.
I think it fits very nicely in there next to the speedo.
It almost looks like it was a stock item.

Like I said, if you could get the mini speedo and the mini tach and a plate that fit both, I may be prepared to pay through the nose for them. :hammer:

I was at a bike shop in St. Louis today and outside was a 2000 silver and blue W650 -nice bike!. I stood there and looked at it from every angle, just enjoying it, noting the nice details, of which there were many. Eventually ended up having an enjoyable 20 minute conversation with the owner.

One of the things I really liked on the W650 was how small and shallow the tach and speedo were compared to the Bonnie... I saw this post and it got me wondering what a W650 speeedo/tach swap would look like on the bonnie - here's a link with a decent side view of the W650 gauges

But...gulp... they're not cheap!! $498.00 for the pair,
plus $119 for the lenses, plus $100 for the base. Ouch! Probably makes LSL look cheap. Now, if you found a good used set on ebay...
