Hi

A few of us are considering a mid Sept, 4 day trip to VA, NC etc. Possibly the Skyline Drive/Shenandoah Natl. park, the Blue Ridge Parkway area or pretty much anywhere down there that offers super nice motorcycling.

We're from southeastern, PA and would like to find a place to stay that's w/i 250 miles from here. We'll trailer our bikes there. We'd prefer riding in higher (cooler temps) elevations. We're open to any suggestions as long as we can find the best, most scenic roads down there to ride.

We're not familiar with this area so any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks
Charlie

Hi Charlie!

Trumpet Cottage, er, Cabin, isn't anywhere near opening, but you'd be welcome to stop by. How many of you are there?

Also, see my post in General/Biker Hang Out about the scary gravel driveway!

Hey,

Black bonnie is correct. The Blue Ridge Parkway is the most beautiful motorcycle road in the East. But it's 250 miles from Harrisburg to Roanoke, Va. It's another 250 to Asheville, NC. Asheville, NC is where you should trailer your bikes... then you are in Motorcycle Heaven. Every 2-lane road around Asheville is Primo! Deal's Gap, to me, isn't Primo anymore because of all the internet exposure. Okay, go get your photo on Killboy.com!, or zeefoto.com! Okay! NC209, NC 215 ...don't tell anyone you heard it from me.

Not sure if there's a toll for the BRP but Skyline Drive costs ten dollars to ride through, if that matters at all to ya.

Is it true that the BRP and SLD have a posted speed of 35 mph? I realize this means 45 mph is probably OK but 35 to 45 mph for 250 miles ??????

Thanks everyone for the info

Doesn't SLD start in Front Royal, Va? That's a pretty fur piece from Roanoke.

The BRP is posted @ 45, but...there's not a single traffic light or stop sign. You'll have plenty to occupy your senses. I don't think you'll be bored.

There is no toll or user fee for the BRP.

The BRP is 464 miles long? I'm at about the 430 mile marker, I think.

Be sure to stop at Mabry Mill on BRP for breakfast and pick up some freshly ground grits and course corn meal. MMMM-MMMM! Make you smack yo momma!
