ok, i'm new here and i've read a lot about the sounds we want from our bikes. i'm still running with factory cans and i'm looking for some kind of reference point. i'm wondering if you can help me with a "scale of 1-10". 1-being factory cans, 2-bafflectomy...10- setting off car alarms as you cruse down the street. so, could somebody tell me where cans from D&D fall into this as well as TOR's or the other manufactures that you may be riding with.

i was pretty set on the black D&D's but so many say it's too obnoxious.(i live an an apt. building). i was then going to go for the TOR's but so many say they just aren't enough.

common, this could be fun!

this will be for an 04 bonnie black.

I have the Norman Hyde Togas from NewBonneville. They come with optional baffles that I have safely stored in my basement. Without the baffles, they are loud enough to make car alarms "chirp" but not to set them off. They have a good motorcycle sound and make the bike sound like a real Brit bike should.

My Pipes Video

I got these Dunstall wide mouth megaphone replicas from Dennis Kirk. They've worked out great and I love both the look and the sound. Something to consider, though not for everyone.

Troh23,

I have 3 sets of cans.

1) stock way to quiet

2) D&D's extremely loud. I ride with a full face helmet and ear plugs and the pipes are still TOO loud.

3) J.C. Whitney Dunstall pipes. They are MUCH quieter that the D&D's. They sound GREAT on deceleration and good on acceleration.

Have fun deciding and enjoy your ride.

D&D's are 10+. But if you stay out of the throttle you could ride them in a funeral. Bikers funeral. But they are loud. Snarly loud. Leave the air injection in place & you get a nice shotgun sound just as soon as you back off the throttle. Nice for denting car doors.

if i was to get the dunstall cans, what kind of jet replacement would i need as well as what kind of attachment will i need for it to fit the bonnie?

-sounds like they've got the volume i'm looking for and the price ain't bad either.

Troh23, Predators are another choice, but they ain't cheap. I think the quality is sky high, and the sound is great too, I would give them an 8+ (out of 10) on the loudness. They can be pretty loud. I've set off car alarms both intentionally and accidentally.

ponycorn, that is one bad bike!!! I saw your pics in the 'Black Bonnie' photo-exhibit. Those mufflers look Saweet.

Nice sound in the video too.

D&D's are definately loud pipes..but the rider controls the volume. with sensible throttle control they aren't obnoxiously loud IMO. They come with the air injection plugs and a jet kit. I have a set on my speedmaster. they are as loud as You want them to be. Recently went cruising in the Mountains of Arkansas with my buddy who rides an America with TOR shorties. His bike sounded "wimpy" compared to the Speedy. (his words)

don't forget about the Mototwin pipes. I have the reverse cone pipes fitted (120 jets, stock airbox) and they are great.

At tickover they have a heavy thump sound like the old bikes, at up to about 3000rpm they are not loud enough to attract police attention, but from 4000 onwards they really open up with an old fashioned roar - especially if you just twist the throttle and go for it. Under engine braking you get a lovely popping / shotgun sound from the overun. I would definitely recommend them.

On a scale of 1-10, I think they are about a 6/7 for loudness.

Troh23,

What some of these guys want you to do with D&D's is almost impossible. How can anybody not get into the throttle and enjoy their bike? Isn't that one of the reasons that you want louder pipes?
