I was trying to plug into the aux power socket connector on my 04 bonnie so I could power my gps. After reading a few threads about the subject, I was expecting a sae 2 prong connector (the thread here for example).

But when I got the tank off, connector the connector was of a type I didn't recognize. It is a two prong connector, but with two flat connectors at 90 degrees to each other (and filled with what looks like some sort of grease).

Some low quality pics of the connector are here.

Anyone know what kind of connector this is? And where I could find an appropriate plug for it?

Otherwise, I'll probably just splice in the sae-2 style connectors I picked up at Northern Tool.

I had the elect power socket fitted on my bike from new. It is like a small cig lighter socket as found in cars. I would assume the connector you show is the "internal wiring connector" for it.

I'm never a fan of cutting wiring harnesses, I perfer to get the correct connectors. Suggestion, get the proper elect accessory socket from T and install yourself, it's a simple thing. Then use the usual connectors. That idea might not suit everyone.

Mind you I haven't looked to see if it has the proper connector, maybe my dealer just chomped the wires and I don't know!?

Dave's right, the connector you show is simply the connection point on the wiring harness for the accessory power socket. Pick up the socket from a Triumph dealer; I think it costs $30 or so. That'll give you a BMW-style accessory socket complete with springloaded cover. It mounts under the tank, above the carbs, conveniently out of the way yet easy to reach.

Thanks to all who attended!

Do you keep one bullet left for yourself, for when it's all over and done?

I simply cut the wires and replaced the plug with a "standard" 2 pin socket.
Then I connected an outdoor (marine style) cigarette lighter adapter to this socket, and mounted it on the right side just below the seat.
This allows me to charge or power anything that has a car charger (my mobile, GPS or anything else) without making special cables for everything.

Yeah, I think thats what I'm going to do. If I ever decide to put in the official aux socket, I can splice it back in easy enough.
