weird thing is , I bought the red scrambler, dug out the helmet and the colors match perfectly, red, black and white, even matching gold pinstriping!
without the 80's mullet going on though its a bit loose now, probably not safe anymore anway :-D

Well you could start out with this article:
Motorcyclist Magazine story

So you have the latest info. In a nutshell, the less expensive helmets are just as protective and in some cases more so, than the most expensive ones.

I am looking at the Scorpion helmets, which I think is a fairly new brand. Hopefully someone with one of these will post a review here.

Given that the colors match so well, I think you should re-grow the mullet!

:-D

I have a Scorpion Helmet, actually I bought 2 of 'em. One for me and one for my girlfriend. I like mine just fine. It ventilates well for the price point, it's comfortable and it seems to cut through the wind just fine too.

I have the more expensive (relatively speaking) helmet in flat black, I think it was just under 200 bucks. She has the cheaper one, it fit her face better as it's a little thinner. I've had mine for about 7 months now and no complaints. The inside is totally removeable to wash, the shield is easily removed to clean the bug guts from.

I believe mine was like $175, and hers was around $140. That's a pretty good price for a well-ventilated DOT/SNELL full face. These are both flat black, so they're a little cheaper than the painted options out there.

Steve, same helmet as SM. I just installed their rubber chin cup wind deflector (about $7-$8) that makes a huge difference in helmet lift and noise. It feels like it stabilizes some buffeting but that may be psychological as it deflects the noise before it enters the helmet (just rode 25 miles mixed 2 lane and Interstate, nice). You do have a more neutral drag when raising/lowering your head at speed. No neck strain. It is a little warmer due to the elimination of air flow so I cracked open the visor a bit when needed. The parts guy I spoke to said he put one in on a cold rainy day and he said the comfort was so much improved he left it in all the time.

I like the way the Scorpions look, and the price. But after re-reading that helmet article I'm not sure I want to go with a Snell certified helmet. I may keep looking for a simple DOT or one of the European standards.

By the way, DannyChrist, I hope this isn't hijacking your thread. Hopefully this is what you were looking for.

Hi Guy, I had a cheaper HJC helmet, and found it quite good, especially for the money. But it was a fair bit noisier than my AGV.
I recently tried a Shoei on in the shop and I have to admit, it felt awesome. My Wife was speaking and i could barely hear her, i nearly forked out the cash then and there! :lollol:

New Enough has been running a sale on HJC full face helmets. I'm really sold on this brand. They fit well and protected my head the last time I kissed the tarmac. I think the price was around $72 for a solid metallic, plus shipping...

I've got a Nolan N102, which I love. There's a lot of discussion about flip-ups, the Nolan seens to have the best latch mechanism of those I looked at, so I am comfortable with it. It feels much more stable at speed than the HJC Sy-Max that now sits on my shelf.

I just bought my wife a Scorpion, but I can't remember the model #... I think the "something700" It was the more expensive of the two models. If you check out the Scorpions, try on both models because my dealer said one model fits round heads a bit better & the other is cut more oval.

I would recommend one of the old Nolan N100 modulars. They go for $200 and work well.
