I don't want to get into the whole "what weight is best?" thread, but I changed out my speedy oil to a V-Twin synthetic 20-50 and, man, did that quiet things down! Less overall noise from the valves, clutch and gears shift and feel more solid and bike just feels healthier..it's either a blessing or a bomb in disguise!

It's not the weight of the oil but the full syn that quiets things by clinging better.

Wow. Do these bikes really use 20-50 weight?

Synthetic oil is the greatest thing ever as long as you don't use it within the first 500 to 1,000 miles. It is too good for a new bike actually in that if you use it on a bike with just a few miles, the rings will not seat normally or well.

Ya'll can argue with me all you want on this (synthetic oil for new bikes) but my pops has probably built close to 100 engines in his lifetime (over 40 Corvette restorations) and I feel pretty good about his calls on things like this. Seeing is believing.

If he's changing the oil, I have to assume that he's put the breakin miles on.

oh yeh. I'm changing oil at about 4k miles, (3500 after breakin change) for some reason, LA freeway driving just dirtys up the stuff! It was black and ugly.

Might I suggest doing it much sooner than 3500 miles next time or it will always be nasty....I change as often as 1500 to 2000 miles....

I too changed to V-Twin 20-50 after about 1400 miles. I plan on changing it every 5k miles which should be about 1 yr's worth of riding.
