Hi,

I dont really feel lika paying $50 for an AI removal kit, which is the price here in Sweden. So I was thinking, why not get the bolts at the hardware store? Anyone has any expereince from this? What bolts to get etc.

I think some have but don't remember the thread where they posted exactly where and what they bought.

Over here the cost is $25 plus almost $8 shipping for small two metal plugs, two copper washers and two plastic plugs. I know. Mine came today. Pretty pricy by my standards but I didn't want to mess it up so I bit the bullet. Not sure upon seeing the little I got that couldn't have cost hardly anything to make and very little to ship that I was so wise. Live and learn. Hopefully, Torro, somebody who has been the hardware store route will post -- making me feel even more foolish.

I remember reading on one of the forums, probably this one, but it was a long time ago.. that a certain model (maybe all), Volvos' crankcase drain plugs can be used to plug the AI. I never experimented, just went ahead and ordered the pre made up kit. It's a one time expense and looked at over time, is really inexpensive.

Thanks, Fog. If you knew how CHEAP I am then you would know how dismayed I was to pour out my pitiful $33 purchase into the middle of the palm of one hand. Now, if I keep the Bonnie just ten years it will only cost me $3.27 a year. I'll keep repeating "Only $3.27 a year, not bad." Maybe that will help!

I think it was 12mm X 1.25. Maybe a Nissan oil pan drain plug.

Yeah, I think that's the size I purchased, and they were for a Nissan. I got them at Napa.

Snip off the chrome tubes and braze, solder, weld or plug them with JB weld, liquid steel or what have you. I`ve heard of people putting spark plugs in the holes for a cool look too.

I wonder if they ran dummy wires from those extra spark plugs? That would cause some double takes! :-D

2 suzuki sv 650 oil drain plugs, at about 2 bucks a piece. Comes with crush washers has small heads to fit beside the spark plugs... Then, find small rubber hose the same size (ID) as the carb balance tubes, cut it into two pieces. One goes across the carbs, one across the manifolds as balance tubes.

Finally, get a rubber stopper, or wine cork to plug the hole in the airbox.
