Could someone please explain, what is the snorkel (on a Bonneville)?

Cheers

It's the rubber air-intake, for a better word, that is located under the left hand side cover which directs air flow into your air box it can be pulled straight out and is "L" shaped.

It's under the left side cover and acts as an easy access port for air intake but it is believed to actually restrict airflow a bit so a lot of us take it out....this is what it looks like when it's removed......

You can just yank it out by hand......you can put it back in if you want as well.

Not to be confused with the "Snorks" keep in mind...

I have an 05 T100. I like the idea of improving air flow both in and out of the engine. I have Togas w/o the baffles and the bike has been rejetted for them.

If removing the snorkle increases air flow would I need to rejet? It seems to me that an increase of air into the engine generally necessitates rejetting. Is there an increase in noise associated with the removal of the snorkle? And where in the RPM range might I see a slight power increase (decrease???).

Are there any downsides like rain water getting in?

Thanks
CC

Does anyone have data that removing the snorkel on a T100 actually helps with an increase in power?

Removing them on my TBA lets water into the air box when I was the bike. I don't really think they are all that much of a problem.

My plan is to install K&N's in both of my TBA's when extra cheese permits. That should help with airflow.

You know, I wondered about the re-jet too but the issue never came up and my bike has ran great all 20k miles *knock on wood*
I pulled mine right at the same time I put on my D&D pipes (like I said, no re-jet either....didn't need it) So there was no way of telling whether the snorkel had any effect on the power itself because I had a noticable increase from the pipes....no water gets in there and I've ridden in some pretty heavy rain out here.....My goggles turn into fish tanks over my eyes and the bike is fine...

So you can actually just remove it without doing ANYTHING else?

You bet. Just take off the left side cover, grab the snorkel, and pinch-wiggle it out.

I yanked mine out (and added a K&N filter) and didn't need to rejet...

I have a stock T100. If all this stuff needs to come off or be changed, wht can't Triumph offer that to begin with. My mufflers are OK with me. I have all the stock AI, filters, etc and I have PLENTY of get up and go. Please explain why I should pay close to 1000$ for all this "upgrading" :???:
