All of the sudden my bonnie is running lousy - the throttle is not very responsive and when I do rev it from idle I get a lot of popping. When I ride her I am suddenly getting an extreme amount of popping going down hills.

I have had the AI removed and have had TOR's on since last year. I changed out the plugs thinking one or both might be fouled up but it still acts the same. I have checked all hoses all seem to be connected fine. I have checked the exhaust for leaks - all appears to be fine.

I have not changed a thing with the exception of putting some 92 octane fuel in her the other day which I usually don't do.

Any ideas on what might be wrong?

Thanks,
D.

there could be a million reasons and you'll get many suggestions. I'll throw a few out that are easy to check.....make sure the plug wires are fully pushed into the coils, check for leaky vaccum caps, check the air filter to make sure it's not extremely dirty or anything big got into it.

bad fuel...vacuum leak...blocked fuel filter causing a lean condition?

I'd suggest the coils...mine's in for them to be replaced...and the symptoms sound very familiar...

Checked the air filter.... fine.
Took off the gas cap to allow air in to check for pinched hose... runs the same.

Where is the fuel filter?
I also want to try running it on the reserve setting to see if there's an issue there.

Also - what are the coils? How do I check them?

Don't check your muffler bearings if someone (surely not i) might suggest it..!

You may wish to check that your airbox has not filled with fluids. Take the air filter completely out and look down in the bottom of the box. It could be filled with water (from washing or rain) and/or oil (from an overtopped crankcase). Once the filter gets saturated, the bike will perform as you described.

Checked the spark plug connection to the coils ..... fine
Checked the airbox and pulled the filter ... no oil, filter looks fine.

I dont understand why this has suddenly started happening!?!

I have noticed that giving it some choke smooths things out quite a bit - does that help at all?

You took on some water dude, drop about a third of a bottle of "HEET" in a full tank, that should get rid of it.

Popping on decel? Check for exhaust leaks from when you put the TOR's on. Seal it with hi-temp silicone sealant.

Worked for me...........

As the running improves with the choke on it suggests you are running lean rather than having an electrical problem.
