I tried to Google, I tried to search here to not bug ya'll unless I had to...
I ride a 2005 Bonnie, mainly to work and back and as much as I can on the weekends. I am 6' 220 lbs. and would qualify myself as a bit more aggressive rider than average. Every once and a while my gf hops on with me and with my weight and her, I can tell I need to be on a stiffer setting...even though she is half my weight.
I want to adjust my rear shock (until I can replace it and the front springs) but I have no clue how to do it.
Can anyone advise me on what adjustments are available on the rear shock and what may be a good setup for my weight?
I am on the second from softest setting (I think) but I admit, I have no clue how to change this setting. Do I have to loosen that bolt to turn the shock to the stiffer settings?
Thank you so much to anyone who has the time to look and comment on this.
There is a small tool that should have come with your bike. It is a few inches long and kind of resembles a large wrench. Throw it on to the lower end of your shock, hooking the two edges and turn. I wish I knew all the technical terms but I don't. It took me a few seconds to figure it out, and I was done. I went from (2) to (3) and it made a nice difference in handling. A bit more rigid on the bumps, but I like the compromise. I am having a local tech replace my fork springs with Progressive springs and I have Progressive 412's for the rear shocks on order. The small adjustment I made on the stock shocks did make a difference though. At least until the new stuff comes in.
Maybe the Spanner fairy dropped it in my kit while I was walking out the dealership doors. Is this something that is standard or it's up to the dealership what they throw in? Also, where is a cheap and quick place Dawgfan can buy one?
A strong grip will turn the shocks,as will channel locks and a rag,a bent screwdriver, ground to fit the shallow hole on the collar,or even the allen wrench "toolkit" will turn it.
