After Dazco brought this up I thought I'd give it a go. First impressions are very good, starts and Idles alot easier, throttle responce is quicker, seat of the pants says a bit more power but that could be due to the quickness in the throttle. Fuel consumption is supposed to be better but I've yet to check that. Overall, its the best 15 minute mod which has produced good results for MY bike that I've done so far!
:-D

Hi John,

When you side gapped the plugs did you cut the ground electrode so that it ended level with the middle of the centre electrode or right back to the side of the centre electrode?

Cheers John,

The link was very useful.

Just out of interest are you anywhere near Maloolaba? I ask cos that's where my sister lives now.

Good to hear another success. I would think theres no reason NOT to cut it back far enough so that it doesn't cover the center electrode at all. The performance i got from doing it that way was great, and i would imagine the less towards that end you go the lesser the improvmant you'd get because the whole i'da is to get the spark to shoot as straight down from the plug instead of to the side. So the futher you go (w/o going to fat as to ruin it's ability to spark enough) it seems to me, the better. Just seems like common sense tho i'm not talking from experience because i haven't tried but one pair so far. So i could be wrong. But i would think that the furthest you can cut it back and still be able to have the electrodes close enough to get the proper gap the better. I may try going further if i can. maybe when i get new plugs i'll cut these back even further and see what happens.

Anyway, i cut mine like John said tho i went a little further just by accident. I cut one a tad further than to the edge o the center electrode accidentally so i cut the other to match. Not a lot, but probably .005-.010 further.

Thanks for posting this John. It's interesting to hear what others get from it, and so far a about 3 have checked in with good results. Amazing that such a simple to do mod that works so well has stayed so hidden at bike forums like this. After doing it i would have thought it would be a standard "must do", but not so. The only thing i can imagine is maybe the lifespan is WAAAAY less. We'll have to wait and see. But that would be the only downside. But i can't imagine any plug lasting so little as to make the measly $5 a set not worth the better performance. if i have to change them every 5k (unlikely) it's well worth it for more midrange torque, better idle, and less vibration. Hellofa deal if you ask me. Plus consider that you can always sharpen the ground and center electrodes to renew them once or twice and double or triple thier lifespan.

Just did 'em, seems to pull harder all the way to redline. Seems like between 6k-redline it used to be kinda weak and taper off at redline, but now it pulls hard all the way.

I side gapped my 68 Bonneville the other day the difference was amazing idled a hugh amount better and pulled real well. Its always be hard to get to idle until warm bur now idles from start albeit a bit slow 500 rpm.
Previously it used to just stop.
Look forward to doing same mod on the T100

This is great ! Funny, but it's one of those things that had the thrice banned redmaster/sproketti/redline (whichever incarnation of him you prefer...or prefer to dislike ) been here he would have attacked me relentlessly for saying something w/o having proof via dyno or whatever. yet it's working for everyone that tries it. This gets me excited because it's just what i was hoping for when i first posted about it.........that a lot of guys would try it and find the same great benefits i did. Very cool !

just took her for another spin post side-gap. This is a good mod, I'm wondering about plug life, but at a few bucks a pop who cares?

I can definately feel a difference seat-of-pants.

I'm thinking maybe 5 ft lbs more?

Or maybe a fatter torque curve.
