many moons ago when i was just a lad, a person could buy a weld on hard-tail for just about any bike out there...I had a 450 honda twin with one in the 70,s ....im thinking its a liability issue or something the way they,ve disappeared, but I cant help but notice the wonderfull online pictures of the various make and model bobbers/choppers in the u.k...........anyone point me in the direction of someone who still makes them?.....mid ohio swap meet is coming up end of july, and im on a mission to build a bobber. a weld on hard-tail kit would make this much easier....and availability of same would make it easier to choose a bike! .......thanks!

Consider using a Sportster hardtail. You'll be able to use either the OE wheel or a H-D with more modern axle adjusters. You're going to have to slice-and-dice the frame no matter which direction you go. The Thruxton bobber has simple tubing linking to the stock swingarm. Brilliantly simple and I bet it's very strong.

It doesn't mention Hinckly motors anywhere on that page (at least I didn't see it). It does mention the old 650s though. I was looking at their site just a few days ago. They have nice stuff.

You can. They were called struts. But why lose your suspension for no change in look ?

The frame can also suffer from stress cracks and possible failure (especially the upper shock mounts) since it was never built to withstand such a stiff ride in the first place..

Click here to see a way to do something similar to that. This is being done on a Japanese bike, but should work on most any swingarm bike.
