Has anyone successfully bobbed their rear fender? It appears to be very light gage steel. Could a careful cut do the job and not ruin the paint? The cut end would be partially hidden under the taillight and license plate and not easily visible. There doesn't seem to be any lip on the fender now.

No matter what cut method you choose, you would almost certainly have to repaint the fender.

I'd get a GRP replacement fender from e.g. mototwin. And then chop it and paint it if neccesary

I chopped my rear fender. it was reall easy. Did it with the 4" grinder with a cutting wheel on it. Cleaned up the edges and put a piece of black door edge trim around the edges. I didn't want to repaint yet. the black trim actually looks pretty good and protects the edges. You can get the trim at pep boys.

I suppose you could hand paint some pinstriping along the cut edge.

I know I've read in this forum awhile back that guys have bobbed the rear fender using nothing more than masking tape and a dremel with a cutoff wheel. And I think the only paint they did was to cover the bare metal exposed from the cut. If you search around the old threads, you can probably find more discussion on it.
