...faster and enjoying it more?

It is becoming more difficult to follow speed limits even in town. My standard Bonnie, unmodified, just does not seem to be happy at speeds less than 50mph. After yesterday's ride it dawned on me that checking gas mileage is pretty useless because with more mileage my speed is all over the place, mostly higher and getting there quicker. Shifting is faster and clutchless at times (lots of "uhoh" and a quick intake of breath) I've begun to run her harder and harder when safe(?) to do so and didn't check mileage yesterday when I fueled up either time. The critical eye used on sport bike riders in the past as "victims of long term inbreeding" has become much more understanding. I sat on a Daytona 675, a Sprint and several Ducatis at the Triumph dealer saturday.

My old excuse of riding to save on gas is long gone. Now I ride because I want to, the hell with the cost of gas.

And finally, the worst! When not riding or otherwise occupied I've found myself more and more watching road races on the Speed channel. Who is that guy with the English (Australian?) accent that talks faster than the bikes run?

Cruisin' around at 50 for hours doesn't get it, I wanna go faster!

:-D :knkknk: :-D

I'm glad to hear that it's not just me with this malady.Only thing holding me back is all the tickets that are getting handed out in our area. How on earth do you slow down to 15 or 20 mph? The ramps coming off the highway seems to be their (the cops ) favorite hideout.
And this while I'm itching to get a triple as a second bike. All that power might feel pretty useless if I cant even push the bonnie to it's potential. This bug is hard to lose in a hurry,I think.

All bikes have their favorite speed range.
My 77 T-140 is very happy on the country roads doing 35 - 60, it loves the low RPM
The 02 T-100 prefers 50 - 80
The BMW is happiest at 80 to 120
With the BMW, I rarely get past 3rd gear

My bike buzzes at 55-60 in 5th.Its smoothest at 70-80. The cheapest increase in bike performance I`ve found so far is EARPLUGS ! An easy extra 10mph in every gear. :-D

You know, thats funny...I noticed the same thing! With my half helmet I wear earplugs for the wind noise, and I consistently gfind myself cruising at 10-15 mph faster on the same roads in the same conditions than I do when I wear my full face without the plugs!

The bike does seem smoother that way also, but my mileage has gotten worse. Its a fair trade, still a lot better than my pickup!
