So you took the groove to the center of the electrode?

No, further.

Ignore the periods and the top is the ground and the bottom the center electrode. Cut them so that looking straight down at the plug the ground does NOT hide any of the center electrode from view. I went a bit further actually, but thats the general idea....nothing directly above the center electrode.
Don't forget guys, it wasn't just the plugs that prompted me to post this.....removing one of the shims really healped too. But unless side gapped plugs will vary considerably from one bike to the next, i'm sure they'll put a smile on your face. Not that the bike will be a LOT quicker, but that it will pull harder....like it has more torque. It's subtle yet not subtle, if that makes any sense. (it will to some that have felt that before) But with the jetting fix mines had me smiling all day. :-D
Oh, and when you gap them make sure you insert the gauge at about a 45 degree angle . The point is to measure the closest points on both electrodes, which now will be thier edges. And PLEASE, anyone who does this plese post. I'm dying to see if it does as much for others as it did for me.
