NO... Not what your thinking, I would have had one loose if I DIDN'T buy her... but the set screw in the Chrome Lifter Arm Cover Part No. A9738075 was loose or missing...
Well let me tell you, that little metric set screw was tough to find a replacement for! Lowes didn't carry metric set screws and the cap screws I bought at first looked like ***** on that nice clean cover.
So I went to the Triumph dealer today (Got mine used from the Suzuki dealer, so they haven't seen this bike since it was sold new in December 2003)
First of all I didn't know that was an accessory piece and not standard equipment, so they couldn't find it on the computer. Then we looked it up in the 2006 accessory book and the number showed A9738090... Well that number sent the computer into an endless fruitless search for some reason. I happened to spot a 2005 accessory book and saw that it had a different number associacted to the cover and finally we found it in the computer, with set screws, but of course the screws aren't available separately.
Then I stopped at my wife's work to look in the Grainger (industrial supply) catalog... plenty of standard set screws in the 1700 pages, no metric ones...
I ended up finding 5mm metric set screws at Home Depot, in black instead of chrome for around 50 cents for a pack of 2. I bought two different lengths comparing them to the thickness of the cover so I would be sure to have the correct length.
I did stop back at the dealer to let them know where I found them so any of my fellow PackMates won't have to search like I did.

Hi Dave hey can't find metric screws?? should have given me a call as we have tons of the things here in the UK, nice shiny chrome ones too!
Actually once you have the eye for the thread diameter (M4, M10 etc.) there are really easy to work with. No funny thread pitch.

FYI, the reason for the different part numbers is that the 865cc engine fitted to the T100 from 05 on has a different clutch lifter arm to the 790cc motor and therefore needs a different chrome cover to the one you have.

I think the wording in the 2006 catalog added to the confusion. It did say for the 790cc there was a different part number, immediately followed by the A9738090 number. The way they worded it sounded like number was for the 790cc and the number for the 865cc wasn't listed. Common sense should have said every other part had the number for the pictured part.
I'm not going to be too hard on Todd, he obviously was still in training and Kelly was working with another customer and tried to help as much as he could. I think they put out above board service considering it was a 25 cent part.
I have been always been very happy with the service that I've received at Harding's Park Cycle in Canton, Ohio. Whether it is finding a part for one of the old stepthrough Hondas, the dirt bike, Suzi, the Rebel or Bonnie they always have been pretty good knowing what they sell.

The threadpitch part is mostly true unless you have a fairly old Japanese bike that runs JIS pitch... I don't think any of mine are old enough for that though. I've always been able to just buy standard metric (is that an oxymoron?) threaded bolts for the legshield and such on the '69, and they fit when we put it on the '64.

Timely thread for me. My set screw or lock screw vibrated out and is missing. Amazingly, the chrome lifter did not fall off and was just sort of sitting there. Thank god as this is a riduculously priced $50 part that probably costs Triumph 50 cents to make.
I was on my way down to the dealer to find a new set screw. This will save me a lot of hassle. Should I add locktite into the mix?

never had a peek at the instructions, ay?
they insist on loc-tite.
they have this funny idea it might fall off if no loc-tite is used

I don't think mine came with instructions. Just the little part in the bag. Lok Tite is definitely going in the mix.
It always did seem like a precarious connection to me. Ideally there would be a threaded recess in the lifter to receive the set screw.
The more of these $50 chrome covers that fall off, the more Triumph is able to sell. Hmmm.

that would make it perfect. or at least maybe a little detant you could do with a drill bit, just to give the set screw something to hold on to.

Mine came in a "blister pack" - no instructions, other than needing a trained mechanic at a Triumph dealer to fit it, or I might be killed as a result !!!!! I think I'll use some Loctite as a precaution. As an aside, I had to run a tap through the threads on mine before I could do up the grub screws without ruining them. Quite a lot of swarf was generated. Pretty shoddy if you ask me.
