When I pulled up to de lights today my Bonnie just spontaneously ignited in a flash.

The flames could be seen as far as Blackpool Tower.

I took it to my local West Sussex dealers who said:
'You were lucky lad, the last time that happened two weeks ago the owner went up with it too'.

He gave me a cup of tea and some moisturiser for my singed eyebrows.

What do I do to stop it happening again?

Try putting the gas cap back on. :-D Based on your other post about cooking on your bike, I suppose you could now use it as a broiler.

Bob,

thanks for that. I did leave my petrol cap off and I was having a cigarette at the lights at the time it exploded. So I guess this is why it may have happened then?

Yours (concerned) of West Sussex

hmm this truly is a mystery. How can preventative measures be taken against something that is spontaneous?? Might just have to live with the uncertainty.

Also with such a huge flash, Blackpool being 250+ miles from you and all, how come you've not mentioned damage to your pants or even men's bits and bobs?

I wonder if you could make a warranty claim, mind you it seems your local dealer is quite familiar with this so might be difficult to argue.

Be careful what you wish for...

dave....mind you...be careful, I rode my Bonnie to cornwall and left it outside a pub in Padstow.

I left the keys in don't do that, not good.

When i got outside 4 hours later (I only had seven pints), some local young hooligans had stolen it. In the distance I saw it on the water, they'd run it down the harbour and launched it into the briny.

By that time the local constable was on the scene.

So i sais to him:
'My Bonnie lies over the ocean, my bonnie lies over the sea, bring back, oh, bring back my bonnie to me, to me....'

Casper (don't take ourselves TOO seriously) Bonnielad
