Anyone planning on attending the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at MidOhio? The event is July 28-30th I'm heading down to Lexington for the opening day on Friday. Taking the truck because my son thinks he needs a bigger dirtbike and I'd like to keep an eye out for Bonnie accessories and parts for the old Hondas. Hope that I can hook up with a few of my British brothers and sisters... I enjoyed talking with the folks from the VJMC last year about the little Hondas, this year we have 4 more bikes including the Bonnie, so I hope I can find some fellow packmates to shoot the breeze with!

Dave:

Sue and I are planning on going to the flat track AHMRA races at the Ashland Fairgrounds on Friday evening (will get there about 6pm) and attending the festivities at Mid Ohio on Saturday. We do that every year. Can't go on Sunday, have to preach.

The vintage flat track racing is very good and a lot of the old time heros show up and knock off some of the youngsters every year. It is flat track like it was in the glory Grand National Days of the 60s-80s.

Hi, guys,
What's the location of the Mid-Ohio? I could consider riding or towing over from St. Louis area.

ed.
Sorry, just noticed that you mentioned Lexington.
Thanks

Man, I can't wait to get there. I've already got my vacation days turned in.

MOBRIT,

It's just a little northwest of Mansfield.

Well, Tom, don't send him there!!!!!. It is due south and slightly west of Mansfield, about 7 miles to Lex and 2 more to the track ---- unless they moved it since last Fall.

There was a thread that posed the same question on one of the other forums here about a week ago. I never miss"Mud' Ohio, (I re-named it because of the torrential rain during the vintage MX the last 2 years) AMA Vintage days. The racing is the best vintage racing in the world, and the swap is the best if you're looking for British or Japanese from the early '60s on. The Friday flat track in Ashland is like stepping back in time about 30 years
I'm entered in the friday vintage trials and on Saturday I will compete in the Vintage MX, # 218 on a BSA B50. If you find yourself in the MX pits, say hello.
Once you go to VMD Mid-Ohio, you'll be hooked!

Yes, it surely did rain the past two years... and there I am, dodging lightning, soaked to the bone, still trying to take it all in in one day!

Similarly, next weekend is the "RAINDOLPH" (Randolph) swap meet for cars (we have a '48 Pontiac)... I think it's a requirement for at least 3 inches of rain to fall while I am on the grounds...

A couple of buddies and I generally ride down on Friday morning, to assure we get a good camping spot in the Mid Ohio campground. For a pleasant ride for anyone coming from NE Ohio, try riding to Wooster, and picking up Rt 95 west. This is a pleasant 30-35 mile ride that takes you thru Funk Ohio (stop in the old general store...Linda is always happy to have riders stop off). If you're into breakfast in a pleasant setting, Rt95 passes the turnoff to Malibar Farms Coachhouse, a 150 year old facility operated by the State of Ohio. Nothing beats sitting on their second story porch on a sunny morning, enjoying your second cup of coffee. A quarter mile off of Rt95.

Take 95 into Butler, OH, pick up Rt 97, and follow it through the little town of Lexington, Ohio. Just outside town, swing a left onto Steam Corner Road. Another couple of miles and you're at the main gate to the track. From Hudson, probably 50 miles to Wooster, another 50-60 to the track.

It is one spectacular event.

For info on Mid Ohio, including directions from other parts of the country, here's the link.

Bob

Maybe we could pick a time on Saturday, say, 1PM, where we could meet at the Triumph corral, assuming one of the RAT packs has one again this year. Would be nice to put some faces on some names. The corrals are usually over the bridge to the right, behind the AMA tent.
