OK, I'm still a Triumph owner wannabee - and IT'S KILLING ME! Anyway, I know there have been many comparisons between the Bonnie Standard and Bonnie T100. I know a standard can be brought up to spec with a T100 for around $700 and change. Now, of course, the 790 CC engine is the one thing that can't change. So here is my question. Would a newbie rider such as myself even care about the difference in CC's? I was eyeing a Goodwood? Green Bonnie at the dealers yesterday and thinking (In the interest of saving some money) that I could be very happy with this bike. I'd just add the kneepads and probably Tachometer. Oh, another question when the Tach is added is it the same as the T100 or a little different?

Man, I can't wait to buy a bike but finances aren't there yet and wife would kill me. But I know it will happen some day and I'll be a true member of this prestigious club.

Thanks for listening to my lament you lucky owners.

Tomster,

It's a lot more then a tach and knee pads that as far as the bikes go....

But as a new rider, the 790cc has more then enough power for you to have a blast with.

Also, as far as the engine goes, the 790's actually has a higher "ceiling" then the 865's if you plan on doing major engine work. You will obvioulsy get more benefit out of a 904 kit, plus you can get a pro-com rev limiter and Thrux needles too....

With that said...I love my T-100!

The cc's are only part of it. The T100 i believe has different cams and develops it torque at a lower RPM, which IMO is worth considering. My 05' speedmaster has the lowest point of max RPM of all the twins, (max at 3500 i believe) and i can tell you that low down torque is a huge bonus as to the way the bike feels. Not to mention bonnies are geared low, so the more low down torque the easier the bike will handle a larger front sprocket to gear up a bit. How much you'll noticed between the bonnie and T100 i don't know. But the T100 is second onlt to the speedmaster in low down torque. if it were me i'd definatly go with the T100 for all reasons.

As far as I know the T100 has Metzeler tyres fitted as stock from 05, and you get reach adjustable brake and clutch levers

If you add the tacho to a basic Bonnie it's not the same as the T100 one

The main differences are tyres, tacho, paint, levers, chrome engine casings

865cc gives you slightly more power than the 790

Oh and the T100 has an 18 tooth drive sprocket as stock

Good luck with whatever you choose

DJ,

The 865 already comes with Thrux needles and an 8000 RPM max as opposed to the 7400 max on the 790.

But if you put a 904 kit on both bikes, you will have a two bikes with 904cc engines, but you can put the 865 needles on the original 790, plus add a Pro-com to get a RPM max of 8400 instead 8000, along with having the 790 cams which I believe are more aggressive.

Maybe a higher ceiling is the wrong way to put....maybe, more bang for your mod buck is a little better. A 904 kit for an 865 is really not that good of a deal...that's a lot of cash for a 39cc gain.

When you NARK the bikes, you get more high end power....that is better suited for the 790 cams.

Really? I think you'll find the tacho kit supplied by Triumph contains the same tacho as fitted to the T100, along with the alloy fascia plate and different trip meter reset knob for the speedo.

thanks panthermark.

back to the original posters question... my vote is to get the 790 and use the money saved towards new silencers. those are by far the best addition i've made to my bike. the 790 has more power and speed than i will ever need.

in the end either decision will be a good one that you will be happy with, after all, you're getting a Triumph!! congrats man :-D

I think you will be satisfied with any of the bikes; the difference is not that big. I use to say that it is about 10 % when it comes to cubes, power, equipment – and price.

I bought the T100 because I wanted the bigger engine-just in case and the two-coloured tank and the rev counter. The tank is even hand pin-striped, by Neil.
