OK here is my advice on cleaning chrome:

1. Use a warm bucket of water add a car detergent (not washing up liquid!) and soap the area you are cleaning.

2. Wipe off the smears then when dry use Tcut metal polish.

3. If the metal is pitted use some hard rubbing to take out the pitting (it will require some time with plenty of elbow grease or effort).

4. Then apply a 2nd coat and use another clean cloth to polish out.

I would guess that everyone has their views. I live on the south coast of the UK and we have our fair share of wet damp weather and salt air. My Bonneville is generally very good but did have some slight pitting on the covers, which I've managed to get rid of almost completely with the above solution.

If you are a chrome fiend Autosol is also good but a little more expensive (in the UK at least).

Just prove it here is my 2003 Bonneville, I have got most of the pitting off the side cases (both sides)

Its worth the effort as in my experience it comes up nicely

If your tcut metal polish claims to "Remove minor surface scratches" beware, this means it contains abrasives. A scratch is the absence of material on a smooth surface. It's not the scratch you remove rather the material around the scratch that's taken down (buffed/sanded/polished) giving the effect of "scratch removal".

Are your side cases chrome? They look like aluminium! If so - Tcut is OK - not too often mabe.... It's not good for chrome, like bluesjeans says - it takes a layer off each time - and the chrome isn't very thick! The header pipes are stainless steel (if they are the originals) - so you can rub away as much as you like without fear of damage!

My advice would be to use T cut metal polish or Autosol. If the chrome is prefectly good Auotosol is fine and T cut, if used moderately, (in my experience) is fine as well on both chrome and non - chrome metals.

My cases are not chromed (like the T100s) but where I have used it on chrome its absolutely fine as well.

I can only relay my own experience. On the cases I only used hard rubbing where it was pitted so yes do be aware of over use with T Cut , fair point.
