Will hit 500 probably by end of week. Have appt at dealer for 1st June. After seeing the price of 15-50 at dealer yesterday think I will change my own oil before service.
Oil was $53 and change for 1 gallon.
Will go with Mobil 1 V Twin 20-50.

Anyway, the washer on the drain plug. Do you change every time? What size washer do I need to get?
Is it a aluminum washer?

Just changed my today. First one at 636 miles. Used same washer. Looks to be aluminum and should last many times. Went with Castrol full synthetic 10w-40. :-D

I get a new one. Where I buy the oil he gives it to me for free. That said there is probably nothing wrong with reusing

It is a crush washer, very soft, and you can tell if it has been distorted. Buy one new one and use it to compare with the one coming off. If it is not badly distorted you can use it over several times.

The washers are aluminum and can be used several times.
They are the same as some import cars (forget the size)
I bought a bag of 100 for like $20.00. Check them for cracks
when reusing.

It's the same size crush washer as my old '90 Honda Accord uses. I buy a dozen at a time from the Honda mechanic, and they cost me $0.25 each. At that price, I change the washer each time.

Why are you going to take the bike in for the 500 mile service, if you are going to change the oil and filter yourself? Changing oil and filter is about the only service most dealers do at the 500 mile "service". Get a service manual and do the checks yourself that they should be doing and probably won't.
