I finally decided to do the quick job of putting on my new chrome cam cover. Ha! It all started out ok. Getting the old cover off was no problem. After wrestling the new gasket in place with the new cover, I went to remove the old bolt seals and found there was no way to remove them without destroying them (my bike has 10,000 miles). So, I went and picked up some new seals ($5.79 each!). I went to put it all back together using the new bolt seals and I'm not sure I got the right ones. The shop is closed for 2 days, so I need your help. The new seals are thicker and smaller in diameter than the old. Do they compress to size? Please help! I wanna ride!

Can't say unfortunatly. But i found the seals a bit hard to get out but no problem doing so w/o harming them. have you already destroyed the old ones or are they still there? If the old ones are already destroyed, all i can suggest it see how the new ones fit and if they look like they'll seal well, try them.

Thanks John. That is the part # they claim to have given me. I guess I'll take Dazco's advice and just give it a try. If the shop has their parts numbered incorrectly, hopefully they won't hold me accountable. Here goes nuttin'!

OK, I gave it a try. As soon as I started tightning the bolts, with pretty much no force, I saw the seals start to expand and fill in the gap. Happy me. I let it run for a bit and so far, no leaks! I think I'll have to go for a little ride just to be sure.

Man, the chrome cover was the one thing my bike was missing. It definitely looks better and more balanced. I'll post pics later.

Thanks for your help!

I put one on too and it's, without a doubt, the best-looking piece of chrome you can add.

Where did you get the covers?

I ordered mine from Hermy's on May 3rd and they still say they are backordered. ssd:
