Picked up my new Bonneville Black yesterday! I drove it home in the back of my truck(not comfortable on the highway yet). Unloaded it and went for a modest 40 mile ride. This bike is so easy to ride. I am very happy with the way this bike handles. I already feel very comfortable on it. My only other riding experience is on small dirt bikes.
I already got the "what year is that" question on her maiden voyage!
Couple of questions. When first starting it, should I let it warm up or just ride with the choke on? Also, can someone give some insight to attaining the correct idle? It seemed high so I adjusted it lower(once fully warmed up of course) and I'm not sure if it is right. Might still be a little high. I have no tach, so it's by ear. Any problems with the idle being too high?
Anyways, great to be on the road! Even better than I expected.

Stay safe!

-Aaron

Aaron,

Cheers from another Bonnie Black rider in San Jose!

We are not alone in the "this bike takes forever to warm up!" Usually, I let it warm as I'm putting all my gear on. Push the choke off and go.

There must be a science behind it, but I just adjust the idle as low as it will go without stalling or hesitating when taking off.

I guess I'm not much help. But congrats on the new Trump. You're going to love it! I've seen two Bonnie Blacks and a yellow Thruxton in SJ. One of these days, we all have to find our way to pub together.

Now that the Oilers have taken care of your Sharks, I guess you'll have more time for riding!

No biggie Hyper.
I will claim the Sharks as my favorite hockey team but I'm not into it as much as baseball and football. No lost riding time for me. My job is what's killing me. I've been working 60 hrs a week since December. However, it has enabled me to save up some cash to afford the bike. Now I'm poor again. Oh, well.
Growing up in San Jose, hockey was not very popular until we got the Sharks.

You can't imagine what it's like up here to have our team winning again. But yesterday it was 30 C and I'd rather be riding than watching.

The bike bug has really got me this year and am planning to go to the Rat Raid in Nelson B.C. I also can't stop doing mods to my Thrux.

Have fun on your bike!

Same scoop on the idle with me. I adjust it pretty low to where it wont die, but sometimes the rpms move around a bit. I live at altitude in the desert and the guys at our shop told me that a carburated engine can run differently from day to day depending on the weather, and they're kinda right. I get it pretty low, but sometimes I have to adjust it up. Luckily its simple so I dont mind. It gives our lovely ladies some character.

I pull the choke out to start, only leave it on for about 10 seconds, then let it idle till its warmed up, all winter long too, thats all it takes
