I just joined the RatPack with the purchase of my 'new' 04 Bonne T100... new enough, 279.0 miles on the clock!

The previous owner was an elderly gentleman that was a Triumph rider in his younger years and wanted to relive some of his earlier years, but found the Bonne too heavy and traded down to a Suzuki S40. He gave serious thought to how he wanted this bike to be, installing the Roadster Screen, Low Sissy Bar and Centre Stand. He also put pull-back style handlebars on it with new plumbing and cables. Then he filled the crankcase off with Mobil1 Synthetic from what I could tell from the included receipts tucked in the Factory Service Manual that I also received. All this in less than 280 miles!

The first two questions that I have (I'm sure there will be more down the road) are...

First Question - There are some additional decals that I am not sure if they were added or if they were factory. The bike is Sapphire Blue/Opal White. The decals in question are:

1. A "Triumph" script on the lower part of the rear fender

2. A modern "Triumph" logo over Union Jack on the rider's right sidecover under the "Bonneville T100" logo

3. A full body tiger on the rider's left sidecover under the "Bonneville T100" logo

Second Question - How many have been affected by the 04V496000 recall for the rear suspension and if so, what did you have to go through to have the recall work performed? I tried calling Triumph USA tonight, but it was after hours and I was unable to find out if my bike was one of the chosen. I'm guessing there is a good chance since it was made and delivered in late 2003.

I look forward to participating here in the RatPack, and appreciate your comments!

Welcome, Dave - sounds like you found a real beauty! Can't help you with your decal questions, although it sounds like a few of them are non-stock.

My question - do you have more details on recall # 04V496000? I'm not familiar with it, since I've only been a T100 owner since December.

Welcome Dave. I got new shocks thru the recall. No problem at all. I already had aftermarket shocks on the bike. I notified the dealer of the recall, gave him my VIN#,they ordered them from Triumph, and when they arrived, the dealer called me to come down and swap.I`ve never taken them out of their wrappers. I believe your dealer will get paid by Triumph to install them also.[could be wrong tho. :-D

Here's a link to the recall information: http://motorcycles.about.com/library...ecalls009n.htm

I stumbled on it myself while trying to find a few good pictures of a Sapphire Blue/Opal White 2004. If it ever quits raining here in Ohio I'll get some good pictures of my own to post. The decals, if aftermarket, were well placed and I don't think they detract from the bike. I'll take a look at Bella Coarse and see if it looks like that's where they came from.

Hi, Dave and welcome. I don't have answers to your questions but I am glad to see yet another east Ohio rider.

There is getting to be quite a bunch of us these days!

The original owner paid $8820.73 plus the windshield, service manual and set-back handlebars... I picked it up for $6200 out the door.

I think I did pretty good... especially since I went there to look at getting a Shadow 600VLX for more!

<<Then he filled the crankcase off with Mobil1 Synthetic >> Slightly bad news - but not a real problem.

Putting fully synthetic oil in a new bike that's not yet run in basically stops it from running in properly. The oil is just too efficient at stopping frictional wear! If it was me I'd have it flushed and run a good quality mineral oil for a couple of thousand miles and go through (more or less) the run-in procedure. Then you could switch back to synthetic.
Dunno what anybody else thinks - but it seems odd to me to put synthetic oil ina bike like this - the Bonnie doesn't exactly have a highly tuned engine (not the stock one anyway!)
I'd be really interested to hear anyone's take on this.

I think I was mistaken on the synthetic issue... the receipt says Mobil 1 Racing 4 T(?) O $53.95 I'm so used to seeing only Mobil 1 synthetic at the auto parts store that I jumped to a conclusion that was probably incorrect.

But I'd be interested in any thoughts about traditional vs. synthetic for the future... this and the other 2 full size bikes are a bit different from the little bikes we've had for close to 20 years.
