I'm a new Triumph owner. The pipes on my '06 T100 turned blue on the ride home from the dealership. They swear up and down it's normal. Is this happening to anyone else? Does anyone else think this is not cool?

That's normal and a trademark so to speak of our Bonnies. Take off the AI and it will eliminate most of it, but will not get rid of the blue. Single wall pipes as opposed to the Speedmasters and Americas (correct me if I'm wrong guys).
Personally I like the blue pipes, but I also removed the AI soon after I got the bike. Congrats on the new ride.

I just got the whole explanation from the sales manager about blue pipes being a signature characteristic of the old Triumphs and that when they started making the new bikes the purists who saw the prototypes without blue pipes went batty. So they re-engineered them to turn blue. I guess that's okay then. Thoughts and comments appreciated though.

It's the secondary air injection on each of the cylinders (the tubes right in front of the sparkplugs). Most here have removed them because they cause the pipes to get hotter and more blue (it's an emission control thing).
I don't know about that "engineered on purpose bit" that your dealer told you, but these bikes do run pretty hot. Check the laws in your state before removing any of this stuff. The AI removal kit costs about $25.
Blue pipes remind me of the early Triumphs, but you will find some people in here that actually have them ceramic coated so that they won't blue.
One caution though, don't leave fingerprints on the header pipes because they will be noticeable.

Also: one pipe will be more blue than the other.
Not to worry. It's normal.

I have a hard time believing that bit though.

Me too. I think its just a result of the lean mixture used to conform with emmissions regulations. The look does kinda grow on you.

I watched mine start to turn color at the dealer even before I rode it home. I expected them to turn blue for about the first 6 to 8 inches at the first bend coming off the head, but
I didn't expect them to discolor all the way down to the cross over pipe at the bottom. I have one of the first bonneville's from 2001 , and I had no idea what the hell those tubes where coming off the top of the head. I have since removed them with the kit. but anyway, I like the blue
pipes . It is definitely a characteristic of the bonneville.

Blue pipes are sexy. They give the bike character too. I wouldnt go back if I could. I wouldnt go back if somebody gave me 100 bucks.
