Had to give the demo America back Saturday. I did manage to put 400 miles on it. Got my new America and took off to break it in. I put 165 miles on it and stopped to fill up. Departed the gas station and made it about a mile when the engine just stopped running. Moved to the shoulder turned the ignition off and back on and it started up. I took off again and about half a mile later it stopped again. Same thing as before. Started again and off we went for about half a mile. The third time I switched the key off and opened the gas cap. Screwed it back on, turned the key and it started up. Drove all the way home (another 40 miles) with no problems. Any idea what happened? I know the tank needs to be vented but I haven't had the seat off so I couldn't have pinched a hose. I'll see the dealer about it on Saturday. I had no trouble at all with the demo and now I get this strange stuff on my bike. Go figure.

No doubt something minor. Let the dealer figure it out. Sounds like the dealer gave you the opportunity to give the demo America a long workout to see if it'd work for you. Glad to see you found a Triumph that works for you.

I have only good things to say about the dealer. Winchester Motosports in Clearbrook, VA. Carl the owner is the best around. I just wished I could have kept the demo America. It would have been ready for the 500 mile service by now. I'm starting all over and only put 200 miles on last weekend. Depending on the weather I should have the 500 miles by 20 May.

Sounds like you may simply have put too much gas in it and a vacuum developed as it tried to drain. Next time try to leave the gas level below the neck insert.
