I just ordered black anodized extended seat bolts from NB and wish to pass to anyone who hasn't yet removed their seat that THE ORIGINAL SEAT BOLTS ARE A HUGE PAIN IN THE BUTT AND SHOULD ONLY BE REMOVED TO BE REPLACED WITH THE EXTENDED ONES FROM NEW BONNEVILLE!!

Now, that I have ordered mine I will now find and order the needed touchup paint.

On that note, I would like to say:

Check them all the time!!! I've purchased two pair so far, the normal, and extended and both have wiggled loose and fallen out on long rides....I've even tightened them at intersections or halfway down the highway inconveniently pulling over to do so.......

By some thread locker if you want to keep them.....I myself have reverted to the stock bolts....easy just to keep an allen wrench set in my took kit while riding and they never come loose on me.

When I removed my seat the original bolts were surprisingly loose. There was no resistance at all to break them loose. Good suggestion on the thread locker. Every screw and bolt I remove is replaced after using Permatex blue. Did you try that on your seat bolts? If so, did they still come loose? May have to resort to Permatex red for them. :???: :-D

Unfortunately I never wised up to use thread locker until after I had lost both pair.......I felt like a real knuckle head...now I use the blue stuff on everything....and the red stuff for everything I want to keep permanently intact.

I have the extended thumb -screw'Jenks Bolts'.Never a problem with them loosening;I do use a split washer on them.Makes getting the seat off quick and painless. Also have the Thumb screw on the side covers.Love 'em.

Split washers work great but I always drop them, lose them in the stuff on the floor, look around for hours, can't find them, cuss, look, cuss, then put on a new one, then find the old one under a piece of newspaper behind the kids' wagon next to the recycling box that's running over.

Thread locker is so easy for me.

I had the extended bolts on until one fell off during a ride. Now I have one in a bag in the garage. I will not spend $25 fro two more. I put the stock ones back in and they don't loosen up for me like the extended ones did. I use an 8" extension on a 3/8 drive 4 mm socket with a swivel to get them out. It is a PITA, but I don't have to take them out too often either.

I'm running the black anodized jenksbolts. Look a little strange sticking out from under the rear of the seat, but sure makes it easy to pop the seat off and on.

I noticed, however, that they seemed to interfere with my sissy bar mount (before I removed it). Not even sure they will work with the sissy bar//grab rail installed.

The extended bolts are a great idea, but I thought $25.00+ s.h. was a bit to much. So I made my own by welding a 3/8" stainless steel rod to the stock bolts and then welded a stainless steel acorn nut to the 3/8" rod. Polished them up real nice and shinny and they look pretty cool on the bike.
