I'm curious.

I was looking at some of the photo albums, and I find it a bit more then a coincidence that there are a lot of vintage planes on this sight. I myself do not know how to fly, but I've always wanted to learn. My dad and I looked at lessons many years ago (we could not afford them at the time), and I recently looked at them again, but I had to choose between buying a bike or flying lessons. It's something that I still want to do very badly. My goal was to fly helicopters, I would have loved to have been a Coast Guard Rescue Pilot, but the Army recruiter said my astigmatisms would keep my out of a pilots seat.....crumbs.

So, how many here fly airplanes? I thought about posting this on the general board, but I'll start here first.

And why airplanes? It's always planes and motorcycles. What about ATV's or racing boats or rally cars? It must be a "solo" type danger people are seeking.

One of my biggest fears is falling from heights. If not for that i'd be strapping myself into a hang glider tomorrow. but it just scares the living **** out of me.

My Dad owned a 182 when I was young and we flew all the time. After he passed away I flew with friends and I still go up with them. Here are pics of the Reno Air Races I took at the last race. I go every year, I guess I just can't get it out of my blood.

And you just can't tell what you'll find at the Reno Air Races, like this Arlen Ness Jelly Belly bike with sidecar.

I highly recommend taking flying lessons.
The first solo is a real natural high.Spins and recovery are better than any rollercoaster.Ground school is an academic exercise.Meteorology was tough.
Now if only i could take a Spitfire for a spin down the Straits of Dover. :yayyy:

I am not a pilot unless you count the 15 or so hours I logged in a Cessna 152 many years ago...... I did work on commercial (Avionics Tech) airliners for 10 years. As far as the allure of airplanes and motorcycles go, they are just "Cool".

I would love to fly but an airplane is a cage like a car. I would lke a bike equivilent like a jet pack or something that doesn't need a runway miles from home.

I fly for work.

I started out as a kid working at the local airport (KPYM) and eventually learned to fly, got my private, and commercial.

Went to engineering school, got bored of being Dilbert, and joined the Navy.

Currently fly ~300 hours a year, mostly Post-Maintenance Functional Check Flights, with some Night Vision Goggle flying. Usually doing one or the other, don't do much else anymore.

Not sure what I am doing next, but according to the powers that be, it probably won't be flying
