Has any one purchased a Clearview Wind Screen to mount on their existing Roadster or Summer screen hardware on a T100 or Bonneville?

If so what sizes did you get and how are they working to reduce the turbulence associated with the factory screens?

I just ordered mine on Friday. Its a 5 week wait so have no experience to report. All I know is that the Summer Screen (13") was beating me to death at anything over about 50mpg.

I made a cardboard template and measured from 1/2" above the center of the headlight, tilting it to the same angle as the SS, which is roughly the angle of the forks. Since I want it as high as possible and still be able to see over it, I ended up ordering the 19 1/2" height. 18" was a bit low for me and 21" would have me looking through it. One nice thing about Clearview, beyond the obvious high quality, is that they allow you a 30 day trial period, provided you leave the clear protective coating on the screen while you try it out. They will either replace the screen with a different height or refund your money if you don't like it.

Monte

PS: I didn't look carefully but do they offer a Clearview that fits the Roadster hardware? Maybe it is the same on Bonnevilles but on my Tbird the SS hardware and the Roadster hardware were different.

They make three heights for the roadster hardware
16" stock replacement
18.5" (2"s wider)
20" (also 2"'s wider)
I am trying to decide if I want to look over or thru the screen but was hoping someone esle had already had one so I knew what to expect

Sorry you haven't had more replies, but Clearview is a very small (6 people), almost custom, outfit and have previously catered primarily to the BMW crowd so aren't well known in Triumph circles. And they have virtually no advertizing budget. I asked about them on this forum about 3 weeks ago and got no response. I learned about them from a guy in Florida that saw an ad for my Summer Screen on the AMA Members Only web site, and sent me a pic of his Bonnie with a Clearview on it.

I had a Gold Wing once that you looked through the screen and ultimately didn't like it for several reasons. First, over time the screen dulls and your vision is even less than through a face shield. Second, when riding in the rain you notice to drops on the wind screen, whereas for some reason your eyes seem to "look past" the drops on a helmet shield - probably because your eyes can't focus on something that close. I found riding in the rain particularly annoying when riding in rain with the "look through" shield. Third, every plastic shield has some distortion in it because of the curvature, some more, some less. It wasn't too bad on the Wing but, eventually, I had it cut down.

The rule of thumb for looking over a shield is to have it just high enough that you can see over it to a spot some 50' beyond the bike. You can't always get that, but, hopefully, you can get close. That way the air will travel over your helmet and not blast it.

Hope you get some replies from Bonnie owners who actually are already using the Clearview, but I didn't.

Thanks for the information mecscc . I have been wondering which is best looking though the screen or looking over it.
Since I am thinking about adding Genmar risers I most likely have to wait till I put those on then do some measurements to see what hight would work best.

Question Clearview Windscreen On A Bonneville

I bought a stock roadster screen from Triumph. Head buffeting kicks the crap outta me after about an hour at highway speed. The Clearview seems like a good option. Does anyone have experience with Clearview on a Bonneville/T-100??

Smile Clearview screens

I have a 21" on my '03 T100 and like it. It fit right up to the Triumph summer screen brakets with no issues. I'm 5'11 1/2 (on a good day) and I look just over the top. It does cut down on wind buffeting but does not eliminate it. Don't know if anything does. Keeps the rain off pretty well. Dealing with the company was OK, too. There was a mix up with the type (was sent one for a America) but they were very responsive. I got a tinted one. Nice quality. I'd do it again.

I have the largest Clearview screen with the tint on my 2007 Bonneville Black. For me it was a big improvement as I look just over the top of the screen. I have handlebar raises on a set of low drag style bars. Buffeting is minimal, even from underneath.

I learned a couple things about getting a screen that was right for me. I am 5'11" with a 30" inseam, that makes my upper body freakishly long. The tallest screen and lower bars just work by a hair. Also, if I use my sheepskin on the seat it lifts me noticeably. Determining where your head ends up is a function for the bars, seat, and screen height. I also ended up using some of the "micro edging" to raise the air a touch, it also breaks up the flow a little. Looks good on a black bike too!

I was surprised how the screen stops air. I wear my mesh jacket on all but the coldest days and arrive much less beat up. I don't miss the bugs either! For what I use the bike for it's a great improvement.

Good Luck!

Clearview shield

I have been using a clearview custom 22" shield on summershield hardware since fall. I look over the shield and I am 5' 8" tall. There is some turbulence with the stock bars and genmar risers however, this is the best shield I have used for reducing turbulence. Parabellum with laminar lip is pretty good also and more sturdy but with more buffeting. Using the mbars with risers the clearview is much better and very quiet. Parabellum (20") is better with the lower bars also.

I found the summer shield and standard bars quiet but windy and enjoyed that set-up last summer. I plan to switch back in the spring.

hope this helps!
