yep finally did it pulled into the garage shut off the engine and walked inside....came out a few hours later and the headlight was just barely glowing...bike spent the night sucking juice off the trickle charger and all is good now.

I think I will hardwire a connection in so I don't have to go to the trouble of taking the seat off as Im sure I will do this again.....

How did you accomplish this? Did you shut down using the kill switch? If you shut down with the key how could that happen?

Get a battery tender, they provide a connector you can hook to your battery and it won't cook your battery if you leave it connected. Both my bikes are on a battery tender when not in use. That's year round.
