T-Rats,
I't time to replace the rubber on my 2003 Bonnie. Any suggestions to inprove performance.
The bike weathered Katrina O.K. but I'm seeing small pitts of rust on the wheels. I'm going to try naval jelly or a chrome cleaner to fix the problem. But I might need new wheels as well.
Thanks,
MaxH

Two popular choices are Dunlop 501's and Avon 45/46 series tires.

I have the GT-501s on my T-100. They are much better
than the factory installed Bridgestones, but I would love to hear from someone who has run Azzaros on a Bonnie.

I see this type of tire on all the sport bike b ut arnt' they designed for the track? Are these considered street tires? They seem like they would be very slippery on a wet, sandy or oily street. It seems like the "old school" tread design would be better on the streets. I have a 76 that needs new rubber. Would these new style tires change the handling?

Hi Max, glad to hear you and Bonnie weathered the storm. Regarding the rim rust spots, have you tried a regular chrome polish yet? That may be enough to do the trick. I'm a little leery of using naval jelly on chrome; it's more for when you have exposed iron surfaces to begin with.

Avons are a street tire, more responsive than the original stock tires. Most of the new street radials have a high silica content which makes them quite good in the wet and they warm up quickly on cooler days.

Today I attended a lunch get together with Trimph guys and gals from western Wa. and Oregon. About 30-40 bikes showed up in the worst riding conditions that Wa. has to offer. I`m a fair weather rider to the extreme, but today rode thru torrential rain and 25mph winds for the last 80 miles of the trip. The Avons were fantastic in the rain and standing water on I-5,at speeds up to 80mph,rock steady,no pendulum effect like the Bridgestones.Only lost bite once when I crossed a painted fog line while banked over on an off ramp, but as soon as it crossed, the tire was right there, ready to go again.I can`t imagine a better all around tire. :-D
