when I first started looking at the Bonneville the salseman made a big deal about a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty. But now that I find out that the warranty is void after you change out the AI and out afetrmarket pipes on is it really an issue. It seems everyone makes mods that voids the warranty. I geuss I should wait a year to do all the fun stuff just in case I have problems, or should I?

They can't void the warranty for any part not affected be the mod. If you have an electrical problem they can't ignore it because you removed the AI. I had a paint problem and they took car of it.

I asked my dealer before I did any mods and they said basic mods like pipes etc. wouldn't affect the warranty. He installed my pipes and did the original rejetting for me.

This is my second Triumph and so far I haven't needed to put in a warranty claim, fingers crossed....

I think it's up to the individual dealer as to whether certain mods will void the warranty. They have to do the service after all .I know my dealer really doesn't care for airbox work and big jetting. If a engine problem occured they could say that I caused it by tampering or altering. The law may state that they have to fix it under warranty.Good luck with that fight.

Two years is a good warranty, its about double the standard for teh industry. I have used mine for several minor claims, the only problem is the long wait for parts but thats really got nothing to do with the warranty.

Is it a selling point? Who cares. That doesn't really seem to be your question anyway.

The factory delivers the bike to you in a certain configuration, and that's the configuration they warrant. What more would you expect?

As has been noted, a lot depends on your dealer and what he chooses to mention in the processing of a warranty claim, but if the problem isn't related to a modification, Triumph has been good about honoring the warranty anyway.

Yes, it was a selling point for me. Not the only thing, mind you, but the extra warranty is very nice.

I disagree that it is up to the dealer. The Magnuson Moss Act protects you. I don't have time to look it up at the moment, but it protects you from the dealer voiding the entire warranty because of some mod you made.

I agree with John that the Magnuson Moss Warrranty act prohibits voiding the warranty for such modifications. You can google the act or look up 15 U.S.C.A. ยง 2301 et seq. My dealer also told me that AI removal and pipe upgrades would never void out the warranty. :hammer:

No, that is wrong. The Mag Moss was written to keep people from getting their warranty revoked because of using non factory replacement parts.

Not high performance parts, but stock replacements. Pipes, K&N filters, NARK kits are not stock replacement parts. Oil Filters and regular air filters are.

Now if you build your motor, and your seat fails, it should still be warrantied, but any claim you have on your motor is your own.
